Across the country, surgical wait times continue to grow as hospitals work to keep pace with the increasing demand for procedures. At Saanich Peninsula Hospital, a small but vital facility serving the Greater Victoria, B.C., communities of the Saanich Peninsula and southern Vancouver Island, as well as B.C.’s Southern Gulf Islands, the Saanich Peninsula Hospital & Healthcare Foundation (SPHHF) is taking action.
Through its Enhancing Surgical Services & Parking Campaign, SPHHF is raising $4.2-million to modernize all three of the hospital’s operating rooms with state-of-the-art equipment.
“Two of the hospital’s operating rooms already run at full capacity, supporting procedures from cataracts and women’s health to orthopedics and urology,” says foundation CEO Heather Edward. “With upgrades, a third room could perform an additional 250 to 300 surgeries every year, a meaningful step toward reducing wait times for patients.”
Dr. Patrick Yang, surgical site lead at Saanich Peninsula Hospital, says the impact will be immediate. “With upgraded surgical suites, we can reduce wait times and provide the high-quality care our patients deserve, right here in our community.”
Community support has always been central to progress at the hospital, says Ms. Edward, noting that donors continue to play a vital role in ensuring local patients receive timely, high-quality care.
This GivingTuesday, SPHHF invites you to support the Enhancing Surgical Services Campaign and help bring faster, more accessible surgical care to the Saanich Peninsula.
“Every gift, large or small, makes a difference for patients and families close to home,” says Ms. Edward. “Upgrading surgical facilities today will help meet the growing health care needs of tomorrow.”
