Why do a series on joy? And why now?

We admit these are not gleeful times, with real challenges dominating headlines in Canada and around the world.

But sometimes it’s helpful to take a breath, look around and see the myriad ways in which happiness, fun and play still exist alongside those challenges.

In our new series Joy Diaries, we ask Canadians from fields spanning comedy, cooking, business and the arts to let us in on their happy place, favourite pastime or daily bit of bliss.

We hope their answers – as told to writers Rosemary Counter and Katherine Singh and colourfully brought to life by illustrator Pablo Lobato – might inspire you to think about ways to invite and cultivate joy in your life, too.

As model and entrepreneur Lauren Chan put it so succinctly: “Joy is part of resistance.”
