wine review

A standout bargain, full-bodied and opulent, it starts with berry- and plum-like fruit upfront, followed by a cascade of spices and herbs. This dry yet simultaneously juicy red from an obscure and undervalued wine region - Aragon in northeast Spain - finishes with slightly conspicuous heat coming from its 14.5-per-cent alcohol. But high alcohol is par for the course when it comes to old-vine, warm-climate garnacha (a.k.a. grenache). Lamb would make for a good pairing. $13.95
