Why is the word "odour" so often preceded by "bad?" There are such things as good odours, aren't there? I'd call the smell of this terrific Rioja an odour, versus an aroma, because it's got just the right level of something I love in many great reds, a scent suggesting barnyard manure. If that sounds off-putting, get off the wine farm, city slicker! This is medium-full-bodied, with perfectly ripe plum and cherry at its core, supported by woody spice and a floral quality in addition to that funky stuff. The tannins are gently dusty, providing good support to a wine that should continue to improve for up to eight years; $34.86 in Manitoba, $33.75 in Quebec, $36.99 in New Brunswick, $39.99 in Nova Scotia.
