New to the Canadian market, this relatively youthful foal in the esteemed Highland Park whisky stable was bred to compete with such entry-level single-malt champions as Glenfiddich and The Glenlivet. It should do well, joining the far more expensive and highly respected 18- and 25-year-old Highland Parks. Like those older expressions, it strikes impressive balance between fruity, grainy and smoky characters. With a gentle start, it displays gentle dried fruit, toffee and grain, then opens up with formidable peat, saline and spice characters. Very fine, complex malt for the money.
