This represents the 10th vintage of Laughing Stock's flagship red blend, Portfolio. Winery owners David and Cynthia Enns are celebrating the milestone with a series of private dinners for trade and media around the country this fall. Shrewd marketing. As former investment-industry professionals, the couple – who grow and make the wine personally – like to repeat the maxim that money managers in the finance world are not taken very seriously until they can post a decade of consistent performance. And the Enns are justifiably proud that Portfolio, one of the most sought-after B.C. luxury reds, has garnered consistently favourable reviews. From a good growing year, this 2012 is a blend of five Bordeaux grape varieties: merlot, cabernet sauvignon, cabernet franc, malbec and petit verdot. Full-bodied, it comes across with sweet, chewy blackcurrant and raspberry fruit lavished with vanilla and toasty oak, turning lively with fresh acidity and dry with fine, chalky tannins on the finish. Brilliant for steak; $45 from the winery in B.C. (laughingstock.ca).
