Ann Sperling, Southbrook's director of winemaking and viticulture, has crafted an elegant, full-bodied white from the winery's organic and biodynamic estate. This belongs to the limited-edition Poetica line, which features short poems on the front label, in this case a verse from Toronto writer and bookmaker Lindsay Zier-Vogel. So, you get a piece of literature to absorb while your palate absorbs the pleasures within. As balanced as a Supreme Court judge, the 2011 chardonnay offers up flavours of peach, grilled pineapple and buttered popcorn on a silky frame, finishing long and toasty. Priced like a good white Burgundy and worthy of the comparison.
