This is ambitious tempranillo, not from Rioja or Ribera del Duero or (insert your Spanish wine knowledge here), but from the little-known and relatively new appellation of Ribera del Jucar in the central-eastern part of the country. It's a full-bodied, rich red showing berries and licorice tightly wound around a firm tannic backbone, lifted by spice and acidity. A fine match for roasted red meats, particularly lamb. Various prices in Alberta.
