The big "24" on this large-size bottle lets a hockey fan know precisely who the Cheli here is: Chris Chelios, the NHL Hall of Famer who wore that number on jerseys with the Canadiens, Red Wings and Atlanta Thrashers (he wore "7" with the Blackhawks during his long, penalty-prone career). The brew is part of Lake of Bays's collaboration with the NHL Alumni Association, which helps transition former players into off-ice careers. The Illinois-born defenceman, who retired as a player at the impressive age of 48, should be almost as happy with the taste of this brew as with any liquid he may have sipped from his three Stanley Cups. Clear golden, with a lingering fine foam, it's medium-bodied and gently aged in oak, which no doubt adds to the smoothness. Creamy, with a malty core of caramel and stewed peaches, it's well-balanced by moderate hoppiness and hides the 7-per-cent alcohol well. Available in Ontario and also on its way to stores in Manitoba and Alberta.
