Value alert! A red blend of grenache and syrah, this comes from Ventoux, which for most consumers exists in the shadows (if at all) of the better known Côtes du Rhône appellation. Medium-bodied, it trades mouth-filling weight for leanness and verve. And for the money there's considerable complexity in the bottle, with crisp raspberry and cherry fruit kicked up with cracked pepper and a hint of smokiness. Available in Ontario.
