Wineglasses should be functionally shaped and attractive. They should also be properly weighted, with a bit of heft on the bottom to keep them anchored to the table (or your hand, as the case may be). Many new-age glasses, particularly the stemless styles, fail on this last point. The Resistech stemless model by Trudeau gets it all right. Made of lead-free Bohemian crystal, it's sharply tapered and has the conical look of an Apollo command module (remember those cones floating in the ocean after the dramatic parachute re-entry?). The base is satisfyingly sturdy, with a nice gravitational pull, and a narrow, thin rim that's designed to be chip-resistant. (There's a 25-year replacement guarantee.) It's suitable for both red and white wines, even whisky and cognac, for that matter, though I could see it holding particularly strong appeal for lovers of pinot noir and chardonnay.
