It's hard to find a drinkable red zinfandel from California at this price. Primitivo, the genetically identical vine, finds good expression in this bargain offering from southern Italy. Full, velvety and sweetly ripe (though technically dry), with plum-prune fruit, vanilla and dark chocolate in a plump and luscious package. Barbecued ribs, beef chili or other slightly spicy or sweet red meats would pair well. Available in Ontario.
