Odd, yes, but in a good way. Muskoka Brewery, founded in 1996 by Gary McMullen and Kirk Evans, crafts this cottage-country beer in a Belgian style, using Belgian yeast for a complex character that includes a pronounced flavour of banana. Other ingredients in the mix include juniper berries (plenty of juniper bushes in Muskoka), heather tips and orange peels. The result is a creamy-fruity brew with good bitter balance and aromatic baking spices. It's very easy to drink even with (well-integrated) 8-per-cent alcohol.
