wine review

Ridge is an iconic zinfandel producer, noted for blending the grape with complementary varieties into complex cuvées. This full-bodied red contains 74-per-cent zinfandel along with smaller portions of carignan, petite sirah, alicante bouschet and mourvèdre. There's lots of sweet, candy-store cherry flavour carried on a round, soft frame. It would have scored a point or two higher were it not for a prickle of alcoholic heat. Grilled red meat is in order.
