He's no blimped-out Kirstie Alley.
Pudgy, bald and determined to shed his George Costanza flab, Seinfeld star Jason Alexander has been named the new spokesperson for Jenny Craig, the company announced with much fanfare this week.
Mr. Alexander, who used to hawk Kentucky Fried Chicken, made it his New Year's resolution to drop 30 pounds and keep it off. In a press release, he says he's enlisted a Jenny Craig consultant to craft a solid weight-loss plan after years of yo-yo diets.
"The first 10 pounds were gone in a jiff, but then bam! Back again, and this time, they're back with a vengeance - they even brought friends," he says.
The comedian and Broadway actor isn't Jenny's first male celebrity client - basketball star Baron Davis did an at-home program to prep for his 2008-2009 season with the Los Angeles Clippers.
"We expect Jason to be an inspiration for a lot of men who want to lose weight but are maybe a little wary of joining a weight-loss program," says chief executive officer Patti Larchet.
Adds Mr. Alexander: "I hope I can be the catalyst for other guys to get moving too."
Let's just hope he doesn't lose his man hands.
