The poster for the opera "Cendrillon" by Jules Massenet

Sandy Gavinchuk from the Canadian Opera Company called to give me my roles for the upcoming COC season, among them Clorinde from Cinderella [as understudy and on tour]

I assumed she meant the Massenet version, known by its French title, Cendrillon, because it's among five roles that I already do. Off I went to Remenyi [House of]Music to purchase all of the necessary scores to give myself a head start.

I was floored to discover the price: $200. That seemed like a lot of money. The score was also really heavy. I thought it would give me scoliosis.

A few months later, the COC publicly announced the 2010/2011 season. That's when I discovered that I was actually doing Rossini's version of Cinderella, known as Cenerentola. Oh. I related my moment of stupidity to the delightful people at Remenyi and they, in the end, allowed me to exchange the wrong score for the right one. Which was only $36. A much better price.

With the money I saved I felt I could go out for that steak dinner to put on some diva weight. In the meantime, I now have a whopping credit at Remenyi that I have to spend. But the next purchase, I've been warned, will be final. No more confusing my arias.
