In photos: The Met Gala 2025’s star-studded red carpet

The 2025 Met Gala delivered a night of fearless fashion, rooted in history, pride and bold declarations through design. This year’s theme, Superfine: Tailoring Black Style, drew inspiration from the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute exhibition, co-curated by Monica L. Miller—author of the landmark book Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity, which explores the politics and poetry of Black dandyism.

The gala’s co-chairs include Pharrell Williams, A$AP Rocky, Lewis Hamilton, Colman Domingo and LeBron James, who unfortunately could not attend due to a knee injury.

The evening opened with a stirring performance by the choir Silk and Soul, who sang Diana Ross’s Ain’t No Mountain High Enough – an anthem that captured the night’s purpose: to expand notions of elegance and celebrate elevated flamboyance, reimagining style as a powerful act of identity and transformation.

A few standout arrivals embraced the theme with conviction, stepping onto the blue carpet – adorned with delicate floral motifs symbolizing fashion’s aristocracy – in some of the evening’s most striking looks. Their ensembles honoured the precision of intense tailoring and its deep ties to the dandy’s legacy and expressive power. These distinguished guests treated the theme not as a guideline, but as a canvas – one that showcased swagger, sophistication and unapologetic opulence on the Superfine steps.

This wasn’t a night for the ordinary – no room for safe choices or everyday wear. These statement-making looks celebrated creativity and culture, turning the evening into a true spectacle.

Teyana Taylor
