Pretty ugly http://www.styleite.com

We all know that fashion is an ugly business, but this is ridiculous.

In a focus on superficial retailers this week, Styleite.com singled out two - Prada and J.Crew - that seem to be taking cues from Dov Charney, the image-obsessed American Apparel CEO who is known for habitually firing staff he deems unattractive.

Last week, Rina Bovrisse, a senior manager at Prada Japan, filed a discrimination suit after she was ordered to can staffers described as "old, fat and disgusting." And this past Monday, the non-profit group Make the Road alleged that J. Crew discriminated against a transgender person applying for a position at its New York flagship.

When shopping, does it really matter if the people doing the peddling are as pretty as the goods? No, says Styleite writer Verena von Pfetten. "An efficient salesperson has a much better chance of bamboozling me out of my hard-earned cash than the pretty, young thing sulking in the corner."

Score one for plain Janes.

Yummy bunny fifi-lapin.blogspot.com

With her predilection for French couture, Fifi Lapin has got to be the world's most stylish bunny. Her eponymous blog features daily posts of the posh little rabbit decked out in designer duds by the likes of Marc Jacobs, Chloe and Henry Holland. After teaming up with Le Sportsac (www.lesportsac.com) in 2009, she has now released another collaboration with the bagmaker. This time, though, her patterns - one of which is seen above - are more vaudeville chic than Coco Chanel.

"Fashion does not have to prove that it is serious. It is the proof that intelligent frivolity can be something creative and positive."
