Fenway Park, home of the Boston Red Sox.Elsa
The Question: The Boston Red Sox are hosting a "Nova Scotia Fans Day" at Fenway Park this July. We're looking to complement our vacation with a day at the ballpark. Do you have recommendations for a hotel located near Fenway? Reasonable pricing is, of course, a desire, as well as comfort and easy accessibly.
Boston is, as Vancouver Canucks fans well know, a sports town. And the Red Sox Nation is a diehard bunch, including its Nova Scotian contingent, created in the days fans bent their ears to the radio, long before teams closer to home threw their first pitches.
So it follows that there are many hotels within easy walking distance - and many even offering views - of the famed ballpark, says Larry Meehan, director of tourism for the Greater Boston Visitors & Convention Bureau ( bostonusa.com). Here are his suggestions:
Boston Hotel Buckminster ( bostonhotelbuckminster.com) claims to be the closest hotel to Fenway Park- 152 paces to be exact. Its current online rate is $149 (U.S.), with a 10-per-cent discount for card-carrying Red Sox Nation members sometimes available.
The Inn at the Longwood Medical ( innatlongwood.com), a hotel in the Best Western Plus chain, is also nearby. It's currently offering nightly rates at $210 (or a package for $229 a night that includes parking and a gift certificate for The Baseball Tavern).
And if you do decide you need a little Frette bathrobe luxury with your Cracker Jack, the nearby Hotel Commonwealth ( hotelcommonwealth.com) has an online rate of $259. The hotel makes the Travel + Leisure list, it's famous for its raw bar and one suite is even decked out in old-time baseball decor.
Wherever you decide to hang your cap - Fenway is accessible from many properties father afield thanks to the city's $2-a-ride "T" transit system - avoid driving to the game as parking near the field can run $40 or more, Meehan says.
