It's going to cost more to enjoy provincial parks in B.C., with rates going up on everything from basic camping fees to emptying RV sewage tanks.

On the upside, campers will be able to reserve specific sites for the first time as the result of a reservation system.

Environment Minister Barry Penner says the fee increases are the first in two years and are necessary because of higher costs and a drop in overall government revenues.

Depending on the level of service or the popularity of provincial campsites, daily fees will jump between one and four dollars, with the most expensive costing $30 a night.

The government is also increasing sewage dumping fees in parks from $2 to $5, and adding an extra two dollars to boat moorage fees.

Backcountry fees for adults will also rise from $5 to $10 a night at several parks, including Garibaldi, Cathedral, Wells Grey, Strathcona, Mt. Assiniboine and Kokanee Glacier.
