A 30-year-old mother of two was killed after being shot at her Vancouver home on Valentine's Day.
The victim, identified as Jenny Le Wong, was killed at around 6 p.m. in a basement suite in the 3400-block East Georgia Street, Constable Lindsey Houghton said. Her ex-husband faces murder, attempted murder, and firearms-related charges.
Cst. Houghton said her ex-husband is known to police, but there is no history of domestic-related violence. They are not releasing his name at this time.
Ms. Wong shared the house with her two children - a five-year-old girl, and a three-year-old boy- and other extended family members who were all in the home during the time of the shooting. Her ex-husband has not lived in the suite for at least two years.
"Officers arrived to find that a woman had been shot and her family members, who had been in another part of the house at the time of the shooting, had not only disarmed the suspect but were holding him for police," Cst. Houghton said.
A male acquaintance of the victim was also shot at, suffering only minor injuries from being grazed by a bullet, police said.
"This is a tragic incident that will leave lasting scars," Cst. Houghton said. "Not only the children who are now without their mother but on all the family members, neighbours, and friends of the children."
Police said they have not determined a motive for the murder and are expecting Ms. Wong's ex-husband may be charged later today.
