The McLeod Lake Indian Band in northern British Columbia is the latest First Nation to sign a mining revenue-sharing agreement with the province.

B.C.'s minister of state for mining, Randy Hawes, says Wednesday's deal involves the sharing of mineral tax revenue generated by the Mt. Milligan mine project in the band's traditional territory.

Chief Derek Orr of the band that's 140 kilometres north of Prince George says the deal is environmentally responsible and good for the region.

On Tuesday, the B.C. government signed a similar agreement with two First Nations west of Kamloops involving the Afton Mine, which is currently under construction.

The province announced plans in October 2008 to negotiate revenue sharing with First Nations on new mining projects.

Mr. Hawes says the Kamloops-area First Nations are expecting to receive about $30 million over the 12-year life of the mine.
