Vancouver Police are investigating a violent assault in the heart of Kitsilano.
In response to a 911 call police found a 31-year-old victim covered in blood and in serious condition at the 4700 block of West 4th Avenue and Blanca Street at 9:30 a.m. on Monday morning.
Vancouver Police spokesman Const. Lindsey Houghton told reporters the victim "has a history with police," and they believe it was a targeted attack. He called for the public's help in piecing together the sequence of events surrounding the assault.
Const. Houghton said police "don't have any suspect information available for release at this time," and he said they have no information to disclose about suspect descriptions, weapons used, or vehicles at the scene.
The victim was rushed to hospital where he underwent surgery and is in critical condition with multiple injuries. Police have been unable to get much information from the victim due to his condition.
Police are asking any witnesses who were in the area Monday morning to come forward with any information they can offer.
"It could be a detail as small as a car speeding away," Const. Houghton said. "It could be a detail as large as a fight between individuals."
Const. Houghton said investigators could be searching the area for evidence well into the evening and police may be going to door to door canvassing residents for information.
Witness are asked to call the Vancouver Police Robbery/Assault Section at 601-717-2541 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
