Vancouver police have apologized after mistakenly arresting the wrong man during an investigation late Thursday.

The Vancouver Police Department has issued a public apology after arresting the wrong man.

Const. Jana McGuinness says police received a call Thursday morning from a woman who said she was being abused by her husband and feared for the safety of her baby.

Two plainclothes officers responded to the call but didn't realize the home they were at had two separate residences and they were at the wrong one.

Const. McGuinness says a 44-year-old man answered the door but spoke little English and didn't realize the two men he was dealing with were police officers.

The man tried to close the door but the officers forced their way in and placed him under arrest, injuring the man's face during the process.

Const. McGuinness says the force regrets any inconvenience it may have caused and police responded to the correct suite when they realized their mistake, eventually arresting a different man.
