Sex charges have been laid against a Catholic priest who oversaw a church in Saanich, B.C, near Victoria.
Phillip Jacobs is charged with sexual assault, sexual interference and sexual exploitation.
He served as parish priest of St. Joseph the Worker church in Saanich from 1998 to 2002.
Sergeant Dean Jantzen of the Saanich police says the alleged offences involved children up to the age of 14, but he won't give their genders.
He says the charges are based on allegations made last year, the Crown approved charges in July and Jacobs was arrested Thursday after he stepped off a plane at Victoria airport.
Sgt. Jantzen says Mr. Jacobs was the subject of a police investigation in 2002 after a person in Ohio alleged the priest had committed sexual offences against children in that state when he lived there, but there wasn't enough evidence to proceed with charges.
