A 45-year-old Victoria-area man has been ordered to appear in provincial court in Colwood, B.C., to face charges in connection with a brutal sexual assault.
West Shore RCMP say the suspect was picked up after a 16-year-old woman complained she was held against her will, knocked unconscious, tied up and sexually assaulted over nearly 12 hours.
Investigators say the incident began at around 5 a.m. on Jan. 30, when the teen accepted a ride from a man, but she says she passed out and awoke to find herself in the suspect's suburban Victoria View Royal home.
The victim says she was threatened with death, and was physically and sexually assaulted before she convinced the man to let her go at around 4 p.m. on Saturday.
Officers arrested a suspect the following day and are recommending charges of aggravated sexual assault, assault causing bodily harm, unlawful confinement and uttering death threats.
RCMP say the attack may not be an isolated incident and they urge anyone with information about the case to come forward.
