The body of an 81-year-old man who drove his car off the end of a ferry has been sent for an autopsy.
An RCMP spokesman says police would like to know if Jerry Hengeveld was suffering from any illness at the time of the incident last week in northern Cape Breton.
Sergeant Craig Yorke says police will also inspect the man's car to see if it had any mechanical problems.
Police divers recovered Hevegeld's body yesterday in Cape Breton's St. Anns Bay.
Witnesses say the 2007 Toyota Camry failed to stop once it was on the ferry, hitting an elevated ramp at one end and plunging into St Anns Bay.
A subsequent search for the car was delayed last week by strong currents and pack ice.
The man's family has said he had been driving around visiting friends last week but they became concerned about him and contacted the police Friday to report him missing.
