Police say they have a suspect in custody in the deadly shooting at a New Year's Eve party in Calgary.

Seven people were injured when shots rang out at a home on 36th Street SW, where more than 50 people were ringing in the new year.

Abdullahi Ahmed, who was 26, died hours later in hospital.

Investigators say a suspect was taken into custody in southwest Calgary on Thursday afternoon.

Police are not giving any details except to say the suspect was an invited guest to the party.

More information is expected to be released Friday.
