Canada's Foreign Affairs department is confirming that a Canadian citizen was killed in the Dominican Republic.
An e-mail from Foreign Affairs says diplomats in the Caribbean nation are following up with local authorities, but there are no details on the circumstances surrounding the death.
Foreign Affairs says consular assistance will be available to the dead person's family if needed.
The French language network TVA is reporting the victim is a man in his 40s and was from the Quebec City area.
The TVA report also says the victim was killed New Year's Day.
