Ontario's Special Investigations Unit says Kingston police were in no way responsible for the death of a man who was found in a vehicle in medical distress.

The agency says police received several calls last Aug. 14 about the way a vehicle was being driven.

Officers located the vehicle on the shoulder of the road with the driver, 54-year-old Ronald Bolton, in medical distress.

Mr. Bolton was taken to hospital where he died of as a result of a heart attack.

The SIU says police helped in having Mr. Bolton taken to hospital and two officers were helping him down a hallway when he collapsed.

The SIU is an arm's length agency that investigates reports involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
