Multiple lessons emerge from a North York fire last weekend that killed a father and daughter, Deputy Fire Chief Frank Lamie said yesterday - the most crucial being the importance of ensuring that fire detectors are working.
"They had smoke alarms but we could not confirm if they worked or not," he said. Fire officials also confirmed that the blaze was caused by an untended pot of boiling oil.
