One man is missing and a 51-year old woman is recovering in hospital after a two-storey home in central New Brunswick was levelled by an explosion.
Emergency crews were called to the home on the Post Road in Sussex Corner just after 6 p.m. to find it flattened.
"There was a female who escaped from the residence and she was taken to the Sussex Health Centre where at this time we're interviewing witnesses," said RCMP spokesman Sergeant Bill Reid.
"There's also a male who resides at the residence who's unaccounted for at this time."
Neighbours say they are still in shock and waiting to find out what caused the blast that rocked their homes.
Melanie Hawthorne lives around the corner from where the home was destroyed and she told CHSJ the explosion was heard kilometres from her front door.
"We all came running out and I actually thought that my house had been hit by a vehicle. That's how hard the concussion was," said Ms. Hawthorne.
"Neighbours told me dishes were falling off the walls."
Ms. Hawthorne said the owner of the destroyed home is a man who works with explosives at the mines in Sussex and Pennobsquis.
She said the house had been recently renovated and listed for sale.
A photo of it on a realty site depicts it as a "stately home with country charm and character," being offered for $360,000.
