Police say four people are waiting for rescuers to reach them in Gatineau Park — northwest of Ottawa — after their hot air balloon was forced down by high winds near Luskville, Que.
The balloon, carrying two crew members and two passengers, came down Sunday night after a team tracking it from the ground lost sight of it.
Eventually, the tracking team established contact with the four people by cellphone.
Police say the four are reported to be OK but due to high water levels in the area where the balloon went down, they could not be easily rescued.
Rescue operations are resuming today for the four, who told the tracking team they had made a fire while waiting.
The hot air balloon is the property of the Gatineau Hot Air Balloon Festival.
