One person is dead and two others injured after a twin-engine plane crashed on a road on the northern outskirts of Saskatoon.

Staff Sgt. Kirby Harmon of the Saskatoon police says all three were occupants of the plane and no one on the ground was hurt.

He says the plane came down on Wanuskewin Drive, a major, four-lane thoroughfare in the city.

The road is bordered by a residential area on one side and an industrial area on the other.

He says the pilot of the craft had reported engine trouble.

It's believed the pilot was trying to use the road, which is about one kilometre from the Saskatoon airport, as a landing area.
