Rob Ford is still playing coy, but it's now more certain the bombastic, penny-pinching councillor will run for mayor.
Mr. Ford is throwing a party at the Toronto Congress Centre on March 26. Although the bash is ostensibly to mark his "surviving" 10 years at city hall, Mr. Ford didn't deny it could double as his campaign launch.
"You've got to come and see, right?" he said. "We're going to have speeches. It's a party. Bring your family, bring your friends and see what happens."
If the Etobicoke councillor enters the race, he would further crowd the right side of the political spectrum, where several other upstarts are planting their stakes.
While one councillor plotted his move up, another announced he's moving on.
Michael Walker, the councillor for Ward 22 St. Paul's and a 28-year veteran of city hall, won't stand for re-election in October. "It's time, and psychologically, I will be able to make this adjustment well. I will keep out of the hair of the new sitting council, most particularly if it's Chris Sellors."
Mr. Sellors, Mr. Walker's long-time executive assistant, is running to replace his boss. He'll face a tough contest in Ward 22, where the only other declared candidate is well-known school trustee Josh Matlow.
