A cab driver who rescued a three-year-old boy who had wandered away from home in the middle of the night says at first he thought he was seeing a ghost.

Muhammad Azam says it was about 4 a.m. Thursday morning when he saw the child wandering in the street wearing nothing but a diaper.

He says he looked around to see if there was an adult nearby, and when he realized there wasn't, he pulled over and asked the boy if he was alright and then wrapped him up in a jacket to keep him warm.

The toddler pointed toward the area where he lived but seemed confused so Azam called police, who returned the child to his home just half a block away.

Azam, who has four children of his own, doesn't know who the family is but he has a feeling the boy was just sleep walking, and got out while his family slept.

Police say the home was checked out and found to be a fit and stable environment.
