A woman has been sentenced to seven days in jail and ordered to pay $6,000 in restitution to Delta Airlines for causing a disturbance on an overseas flight that had to be diverted to Labrador.
Irina Shevchenko, 49, was sentenced Tuesday in Happy Valley-Goose Bay on a charge under the Aeronautics Act.
A Russian national who lives in New York City, Ms. Shevchenko became unruly on a flight to New York from Moscow last week, forcing its diversion to Happy Valley-Goose Bay.
The RCMP says the mischief charge was dropped and Ms. Shevchenko pleaded guilty to the charge under the Aeronautics Act.
The jail sentence is considered served by the time she has already spent in custody.
