Canterbury of New Zealand, enthusiasts say, is to rugby players what Holt Renfrew is to fashion mavens. Who knew.

So it is a big deal - apparently - to find Defence Minister Peter MacKay, all decked out in red and white Canterbury gear, in the latest issue of the Canterbury catalogue.

You can find him on page 16; he is bending down to tie his shoelace surrounded by his Canadian Forces rugby teammates. The gear was donated for the game.

The picture was taken last year at a charity match between Mr. MacKay's military team and the Ottawa Irish Rugby Club; the Irish won but $25,000 was raised for the Military Families Fund.

And minutes after that photo was taken, Mr. MacKay was tackled by a 300 lb former national rugby team player. The result was a crushed elbow for the minister, which required surgery and three steel pins to hold his elbow together.

Despite all that, Mr. MacKay did attend the post-game party and Question Period the next day.
