A four-year-old girl was pulled from a backyard pool in Brampton and rushed to hospital without vital signs Thursday.

Police, ambulance and fire crews rushed to the home on Creditview Road, north of Queen Street, at around 4:45 p.m. to find the child, not breathing, and a number of people at the home shaken by what had happened.

She was first brought to a local hospital in Brampton but was transferred to a Toronto hospital around 6 p.m., where she remains in critical condition, said Peel Police Constable J.P. Valade.

It is unclear whether the girl lived at the home where she was found.

"Now everything's been slowed down to the snail's pace," Constable Valade said of the investigation. "We're interviewing a number of people who were at the residence."
