A worker was killed when a steel beam fell on him at a construction site in Vaughan on Monday.

The incident, which happened around 1:15 p.m., occurred on the fourth floor of a building under construction on Applewood Crescent, which is near the intersection of Highways 400 and 407.

"He died at the scene so we're just waiting for the coroner now to attend," said York Regional Police Sergeant Gary Phillips.

Sgt. Phillips said the call came in as a "VSA," which stands for vital signs absent.

The man's name has not been released.
