Ambulances were called to City Hall on Wednesday afternoon after Etobicoke Councillor Vince Crisanti fell sick.

Mr. Crisanti, who was designated as one of Mayor John Tory's three deputy mayors last year, was taken to hospital for a "minor medical condition," which emergency services described as non-life-threatening.

Two ambulances arrived at City Hall at about 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, after a 911 call was placed from the councillor's office. Mr. Crisanti appeared to be conscious and was speaking with paramedics as he was taken to the ambulance on a stretcher.

A staffer in Mr. Crisanti's office said the councillor "wasn't feeling well" and an ambulance was called just to be safe.

"Paramedics assessed the patient with a minor medical condition, and the man was taken to the local hospital," said a spokeswoman for the Toronto Paramedic Services, Kim McKinnon.

She did not provide additional details of his condition, except to say "it's a minor condition that could benefit from further treatment perhaps in hospital. But it's not life-threatening or serious."

Mr. Crisanti was a councillor for the former city of Etobicoke, and later elected in 2010 as the councillor for ward 1 Etobicoke North. After Mr. Tory's election late last year, Mr. Crisanti – a former ally of Rob Ford's – was named the mayor's ceremonial deputy mayor for Etobicoke.
