Dog days of summer

The great thing about dogs is that they're willing to chase after Frisbees, run through tunnels and leap over impossibly tall hurdles regardless of the humidex. And no one does it better than the McCann Dogs, who will be wowing tots and adults alike as part of the Purina Pro Plan Dog Show. (Saturday and Sunday, Shows at 12 p.m., 2 p.m., 4 p.m. Ontario Place. From $11.90)

Not your grandfather's booty

Picture burlesque as a thinking man's striptease with lots of ostrich feathers and garter belts - one in which the removal of clothing is more about the journey than the destination, and dancers have old-timey names like Roxi Dlite, Amber Ray and Ms. Indigo Blue. It's all going down at the third annual Toronto Burlesque Festival. (Saturday, 6 p.m. The Mod Club, 722 College St. W. $35; Sunday, 2 p.m. The Great Hall, 1087 Queen St. W. $40 www.torontoburlesquefestival.com)

(Saturday and Sunday; www.frugalfashionweek.com)

Elvis is in the Georgian Triangle

Hundreds of Elvises, that is, all of whom are heading to Georgian Bay for the 16th annual Collingwood Elvis Festival. Attractions include an Elvis-impersonator competition, tribute-artist competition, street party, parade, midway and more than two dozen professional Vegas-style shows. This year's festival commemorates the 50th anniversary of Elvis's return from the Army. (Saturday and Sunday; www.collingwoodelvisfestival.com)

Roughriders, ho!

There's more to Saskatchewan than oil sands and gypsum. A festival called Love, Saskatchewan showcases the culture of the province that Torontonians usually fly over but never land in. Highlights include an exhibition of cowboy culture, aboriginal art, author readings and cowgirl poetry. (Saturday and Sunday; Harbourfront; www.harbourfrontcentre.com)
