A man was doused in gasoline and taken hostage after an argument over a business deal Friday morning near Toronto, police said.

Shortly after 10 a.m. ET, two men were arguing at a small trucking company on Drew Rd., in an industrial park just north of Pearson International Airport in Mississauga, when one man allegedly poured gasoline over the other and threatened him.

As police gathered outside and tactical officers surrounded the building, the suspect is accused of locking the hostage in a room.

Police contacted the suspected hostage taker and negotiated with him.

"Very shortly after being in contact with officer, he surrendered," said Constable Sam Nulle of Peel regional police.

The standoff ended peacefully before 11 a.m. when the hostage was released.

A 46-year-old Hamilton man was arrested and charged with mischief endangering life, forcible confinement, assault with a weapon, aggravated assault and extortion.

The two men were business associates, but it's not clear what connection the men had to the company where the incident happened, police said.

It was not immediately known what business deal sparked the confrontation.

The hostage was unhurt.
