A man believed to be in his 20s was fatally stabbed Wednesday evening in Mississauga, west of Toronto, Peel Regional Police confirmed.

The victim's name was not released and it was unclear whether any arrests had been made.

The altercation took place at 2247 Hurontario St., near the Queensway and across the street from the Trillium Health Centre,

Detectives were at the scene, a police spokesman said, but no other details were immediately available.

The killing took place inside a large high-rise apartment building. Paramedics who attended the scene said the victim was stabbed once in the chest.

Peel police got the 911 call at 6:38 p.m ET, Constable Tom Ruttan said, and are anxious to speak to anyone who may have seen a suspects or suspects fleeing the scene, either on foot or in a vehicle.

The killing was Peel's 16th homicide of the year.
