A Peel police officer has sustained non-life threatening injuries after being stabbed in the arm during an altercation in Mississauga, Ont. Thursday morning.
Police are withholding the name of the officer, who was stabbed by a 47-year-old man while responding to a mental health call at Orleans Road shortly after 11 a.m.
The man fled the area in a Peel police cruiser, which has since been located and recovered, said Peel police media spokesperson Matt Small. Local schools in the area were notified and several were on lockdown "in the interest of public safety," added Mr. Small.
The man was caught shortly after noon and is currently in police custody. The officer was taken to a local hospital and is in stable condition.
The lockdown has been lifted as there are no other suspects, said Mr. Small.
