Police have charged three young men with first-degree murder in the death of a 17-year-old whose body was found in the Humber River last week.

After taking the rare step of naming two youths in search warrants Wednesday evening, police arrested one of them at home without incident. The other turned himself in to police at 23 Division at 10:30 p.m.

Another man was arrested in his northwest Etobicoke neighbourhood around midnight Tuesday, said 23 Division Sergeant Rob North.

The body of Andrew Dowden was discovered Friday evening around 7:30 p.m. by people walking near the river's east bank, behind Humber College, just south of Finch Avenue West.

Police later found a gunshot wound on Mr. Dowden's body and determined that he'd been thrown in after he was shot, said Constable Tony Vella.

The young man had been missing since July 26 and it was believed he had been visiting friends. Investigators had been trying to trace his last steps, saying it was unclear what he had been doing and where he was before he died.

The three young men, who cannot be named because they are younger than 18, will appear for bail hearings at 9 a.m. in Toronto West Courts.

Police are not seeking any other suspects, Sgt. North said.
