Toronto police say the city's fourth gun-related death in a week is a 45-year-old man who was gunned down in east-end Toronto. Police say Carl Cole, of Toronto, died after being shot several times Wednesday evening in a parking lot at 65 Greenbrae Circuit, in what is believed to have been a drive-by attack.
Investigators believe the suspects fled in the victim's silver 2006 Chrysler 300, with Ontario license plate BFZM 855. Officers found the car Thursday in the Neilson Road/401 area.
Paramedics rushed Mr. Cole to Sunnybrook hospital's trauma unit, but he was later pronounced dead. He is Toronto's 56th homicide of 2010. An employee at a nearby store told CTV News that officers came in to ask for cups to collect and note evidence because they had run out of markers.
In the past week, there have been 11 shootings and four gun-related deaths in Toronto.
"It is tragic when you see this many shootings," Inspector Gerry Cashman told reporters. "We do have spikes from time to time, where we get a lot and then it calms down. I'm hoping this is just a spike that is taking place and not a pattern."
