Teacher Timothy Dingwall is seen in a yearbook photo from Harbord Collegiate Institute in Toronto.
A Toronto District School Board high-school teacher has been charged with sexual exploitation.
The charge involves sexual touching, directly or indirectly, of a young person or dependent by someone in a position of trust or authority.
Timothy Dingwall, a 40-year-old social studies teacher at Harbord Collegiate Institute high school, is now on paid leave from the school, and a letter went home with parents on Monday, school board trustee Chris Bolton said. He added that the school's principal Rodrigo Fuentes "has been handling the local details and has been very supportive of the students."
Toronto Police Constable Isabelle Cotton said Mr. Dingwall is out of custody and will appear in court June 10.
A Law in Action website lists Mr. Dingwall as the "Law in Action Within Schools" co-ordinator for Harbord Institute, in addition to acting as a civics teacher and curriculum leader for the school's social and global studies. A December, 2009, Harbordite newsletter lists him as one of the teachers helping to put the Harbord Club Museum online.
