Police are seeking witnesses to an accident in which two elderly Mississauga women were killed when the car they were in collided with a second vehicle Monday afternoon.

Helena Golebiowska, 69, and Fenia Arendacz, 76, both of Mississauga, were pronounced dead at the scene.

The accident took place around 3 p.m. at the traffic light-controlled intersection of Hurontario Street and Queensway in the City of Mississauga. The impact was so severe that one of the victims was ejected from the car, Peel Regional Police said.

A 2012 Jeep Liberty driven by a 37-year-old Oakville man struck a 1995 Mazda with four occupants.

The Jeep's driver was treated for minor injuries, but all four of the people in the Mazda were either killed or badly injured.

In the front seats of the Mazda were a 68-year-old Toronto man and his wife, 66, both of whom were transported to a Toronto trauma centre in critical condition.

Ms. Golebiowska and Ms. Arendacz were in the rear of the Mazda.

Anyone who saw the accident take place is asked to contact the Peel police service's major collision bureau, 905-453-3311, extension 3710.

There was no indication that alcohol or drugs were involved.
