A 61-year-old Toronto woman is in hospital after being sexually assaulted and beaten while visiting the grave of a relative.
Police say the woman was attacked sometime after 5 p.m. Monday in the Pine Hills Cemetery in the city's east end near Birchmount Road and St. Clair Avenue East.
The woman was walking on a paved path when a man approached her.
"She's dragged off the main path by this man who then brutally sexually assaults her, causing some serious injuries to her body," said Constable Tony Vella.
The victim fell unconscious during the attack. A few hours later, she regained consciousness and made her way to a cemetery building where security guards called police.
The woman was taken to hospital, where she is in serious condition.
Police are looking for a white male about 30-40 years of age with a skinny build. He was clean-shaven with his hair tied in a ponytail.
